Anfield Cat finds Sanctuary at Freshfields

Yes it's true... the ‘Anfield Cat' has been rescued from his less than idyllic life on the streets of Anfield and is currently in a foster home under the care of Freshfields Liverpool.

Shankly as this wonderful puss has been renamed was a little the worse for wear upon admittance. Collected from Anfield by ‘Cat Neutering Programme' co-ordinator Dave Callendar, Shankly is covered in bites and has a large abscess under his chin.  That said he is an extremely affectionate and friendly cat who shows obvious gratitude for the cosseting he is receiving at present. Shankly, who we estimate to be around 2-3 years old, will remain under the care of the Liverpool rescue for a few weeks yet and top of the agenda for him will be neutering, vaccinating and micro-chipping all things that any responsible pet owner would ensure happened anyway.

Eventually Shankly will be ready to find himself a loving and permanent new home and the charity will of course ensure that any potential adoptee is vetted as per our current criteria.  Unfortunately we cannot take reservations on him at this point in time however anyone who is seriously interested should give the rescue a call in three weeks.

For now though Freshfields will greatly accept any donations toward Shankly's care or towards the care of the 80+ other felines currently resident at our shelter. To make a donation please scroll to the very top of the page and click on the donate button! Thank You!

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: "Things are looking up for Shankly. Harry Redknapp might be starting to get a bit worried now the nation's favourite cat is being well looked after."
