News5000 Reasons to Say a Whopping Big THANK YOU !Sunday November 6th 2011 Yes that's right, the staff and trustees of Freshfields Animal Rescue are all very happy this morning! Voting has now closed on the Animal Friends Insurance 'Feel Good Park' Facebook Page and Freshfields has come out in TOP position!!! We would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to every one of you who has voted for us and particularly to those who have rallied friends and colleagues to the cause. Look what a difference you have made! £5k between the two rescue centres will make such a difference to us through the winter months and the only reason we will have it is because of the VOTES placed by yourselves!!! THANK YOU all once again, this has truly been a JOB WELL DONE ! Halloween Cat Extravaganza Brings in a Crowd!Friday November 4th 2011 Freshfields would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who attended our 2011 Cat Extravaganza! The sun shone, the rescue filled up, there were scary faces everywhere but they were smiling!!! Loads of delicious food was available for lots of very hungry tummy's and overall a great day was had by all. Extra Special Thanks go to all those who helped on the day, or helped prepare in advance for the day... what a talented bunch you are and generous to boot! Thank you! 320 visitors came through the rescue doors leaving this struggling rescue just over £1700 better off when they left! Another reason to say thank you! Does anybody recognise those feet?Friday November 4th 2011 Even the poor Freshfields Cat & Rabbit have collapsed with exhaustion after the day has proven so very, very busy! What a great success and what a fantastic amount of support has been shown by so many local family's all present here to enjoy the festivities! However...one very big question remains! Can anyone out there identify the owner of the sandled feet? If the sandles don't give it away... how about the socks? Answers on a postcard please! Captain Moolight shinesMonday October 31st 2011 Captain Moonlight and Ex Chief Inspector Fosgrave enjoyed their annual outing at the Punchbowl Inn in Sefton on 28th October 2011. They were warmly welcomed by an excited audience and chilled and thrilled everyone with their ghostly tales. They helped to raise over £400 for Freshfields Animal Rescue and if you missed them at the Punchbowl you can catch them on Haunted Liverpool's Halloween Tours or any of Haunted Liverpool's weekly tours. Bravo At the loss of LeonSaturday October 15th 2011 Sadly after losing Sparky only a week ago, we have unexpectedly also lost Leon another of our long term dogs. Leon went off his food a few days ago and wouldn't even eat chicken, this meant we struggled to give him his pain relief for his arthritis. We took him to the vets where he had a full examination. Our vet found his arthritis had worsened, more than we thought. He also had an enlarged kidney and probable stomach ulcers. As we couldn't medicate him, we decided to let him sleep peacefully. It was such a hard decision to make, but we knew it was for the best, we couldn't let him suffer. Leon has been such a huge part of our lives for the last 7 years. He came to us as a cruelty case, he had been badly beaten by his previous owner and was very nervous with strangers. He got on well with the kennel staff and loved being fussed and stroked, he would rub all over you like a cat asking for cuddles, forgetting he was a giant mastiff! He enjoyed lovely long walks with his dog walkers Elaine and Susie whom he adored, along with his kennel mate and best friend Spirit. He was often found playing with Spirit like a big soft puppy, we would sneak up on the two giants and watch them goofing around every morning after breakfast. In the evenings he would take to his couch for a snooze. We are going to miss Leon so much, it is hard to put into words the loss we feel at the moment. But we are so glad that we were able to rescue Leon from his cruel start in life and offer him a safe, loving home for the rest of his days. Lots of love Leon, we miss you. SparkySunday October 9th 2011 Sadly Sparky (Liverpool resident Collie Cross) was put to sleep on Friday 7th October after an inoperable lump in his neck became too much for him. In his last days he enjoyed being spoilt with sausages and chicken and taken to the river by his favourite dog walker. Sparky was tied up and abandoned at the rescue in 2003. It became apparent that he hadn't been socialised with people much and was most likely a cruelty case. Although he didn't find a home, Freshfields was his home. He lived happily with his labrador friend Nina and spent the last few years in the Freshfields house, were the older dogs live. He was so happy and content with us, he spent his days going for long walks with his dog walker Breda and his evenings sleeping on his couch. We will miss Sparky so much, but it was an honour to know him and to be his friend. Lots of love and sleep tight Sparky, all the kennel staff and dog walkers xxx Liverpool MarathonMonday October 3rd 2011 http://www.justgiving.com/Paul-Chambers1 Paul Chambers is running the Liverpool Marathon this Sunday 9th October to raise money for Freshfields.
