Ghost Walks celebrate 2nd Anniversary

Saturday February 27th 2010

Happy Birthday

Haunted Liverpool Ghost Walks are 2 Years old!

It's hard to believe it's been two years since we ran our first Ghost Walk from Central Station in February 2008. Tom Slemen kindly turned up to wish us well and has continued to be a source of inspiration from that day to this.

So much has happened in the last two years, we think this inspiring story should be told in full so watch out for our Birthday Newsletter coming your way in the near future. Also, look out for our Ghost Story competition, also coming soon.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey and our thanks also go to those people who will continue to support us in the future. We couldn't do it without you!

We had a special birthday cake made as you'll see in our photograph.

From left to right Fredward, Captain Moonlight's sticky fingered valet, Mistress Elizabeth (The Hangman's daughter.. in training), Our lovely Rita.. Rita Smith, Landlord of Peter Kavanagh's pub and a staunch supporter of Freshfields. Moving along we have Araminta the Vampire, cruelly played by Elisa Cowley; Our inimitable Captain Moonlight, lurking behind the cake and last but by no means least we have Ex Chief Inspector Fosgrave (who was sacked from the Police Force for dubious dealings with the dead.... Say no more!)

These wonderful characters are just part of our fantastically talented team, the rest will be included in our newsletter.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GHOST WALKS... THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!!

New Veggie Cafe for Southport!

Thursday February 25th 2010

This Saturday (Feb 27th) sees the official opening of The Eatery.

The Eatery, on Leicester street opposite the Mulberry Tree, is a family run all vegetarian cafe/sandwich bar.

Eatery owners Alan and his partner are avid supporters of Freshfields and indeed are honouring the rescue with a donation of the profits from the day of the official opening. Freshfields will also be permitted to showcase profiles of animals in needs of new homes in the cafe and advertise forthcoming events.

Freshfields welcomes The Eatery and it's veggie menu as a positive step toward meat free dining. Please support the cafe on Freshfields behalf!

Success at Dancing with Dogs Event in Angelsey

Wednesday February 17th 2010

It  was a  successful and a very entertaining afternoon on Sunday 14th February.   Refreshsments were laid on and although it was a very cold day and we were all wrapped up very warmly a good time was had by all.

The beautiful dogs involved had wonderful time showing off their skills

A total of £180 was raised! A big THANK YOU to all involved and of course to Angelsey Dog Club.

Please let this be the LAST time!

More Albino Dwarf rabbits dumped!!! This is an ongoing story that we had hoped had come to an end. 4 Dwarf Albino rabbits dumped outside the rescue. This has been happening periodically for more than a year now and it is so frustrating. These are beautiful rabbits but the owner should have learnt their lesson long ago and taken the right action to prevent further breeding. All they had to do was show us that they wanted to take control and to stop all these unwanted animals from entering the world and we could have helped them! Neuter at the start and avoid the pain and trouble caused not just to the rabbits but to yourselves and the rescue centre that has to take on your burden!

Anyhow...the latest lot turned up in two storage boxes, both labelled. The one with Mum rabbit in stated 'THE END' on it in marker pen! We can only hope and pray that this is the truth and that these people have now given us ALL of their rabbits!!!

Unfortunately one of the daughter rabbits gave birth the first day she was at the rescue and we can only assume it is likely that her sister is pregnant too! What can we say to the previous owners other than.... SHAME ON YOU FOR ALLOWING THIS TO CONTINUE FOR SO LONG!

Please ... all prospective bunny owners, remember to get your bunny neutered as soon as possible, or better still come to Freshfields to rehome a rabbit and the neutering will already have been taken care of!

News from the Paranormal

Monday February 8th 2010

Paranormal night raised £400. Below is a report from one of the investigators. There will be a return to Lydiate Abbey in the next couple of months, anyone interested should contact Jan Robinson on 07983 160479 or email jan@ghostwalks.org

"A report from Michael Hadfield"

The evening was clear and cold and the lack of light pollution meant that even faint constellations like the Pleiades were easily visible alongside Orion's magnificence and the familiar Plough standing on its tail. It would have been a good evening for a sky watch, but that wasn't the reason we were there.

Thirty eight people arrived to enjoy experiencing at first hand, and for the first time, the reality of a paranormal investigation - which is quite unlike the simulacrum offered by ‘reality' tv.

Attendees were shown how to use voice recorders to search for Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP); dowsing rods to seek out energy signatures; and electro-magnetic field (EMF) meters to identify possible paranormal activity; they were also briefed on the history of the ‘abbey' and the nearby Hall.

Two groups were formed, one headed off to Lydiate Hall, a short walk away, while the other remained at St. Catherine's Chapel (the real name of Lydiate Abbey). Half way through the evening the groups swapped over, so that everyone had a chance to explore both places.

We had some interesting responses on our EMF meters, several people obtained photographs with as yet unexplained phenomena, and most of our ‘trainee' dowsers were suitably impressed when rods took on a life of their own, and a significant number even successfully located the psychic hotspot we created several hours earlier in the Hall.

It appears that an enjoyable evening was had by all and we received much in the way of positive feedback about the event. Freshfields Animal Rescue benefited from this charity event, and my thanks to Jan, Fred and Penny, for organising the event and for providing assistance and support in handling such a large number of people, and also Wendy for coming along to add a little psychic depth to the evening.

If you attended and have photographs then please send them to me and I'll consider them for posting here.

Michael
