AppealsChappie Canned Dog FoodCan you help us by donating cans of Chappie dog food to the rescue? We currently have a number of dogs in residence with sensitive tummy's and our supplies are running low. Chappie, whilst cheap and cheerful, is approved be vets as being one of the best foods on the market. Ex-Battery Hens Wanted! We are in desperate need of ex-battery hens to be rehomed through our farm. We have always had a good supply of ex-battery hens in the past but the farmers are expecting us to pay for them this time - which we are not willing to do - and our hen waiting list keeps on getting longer and longer. We are going to be missing out on good homes for our hens. Crammed into cages the size of a microwave at a capacity of up to six hens per cage, battery hens are usually kept for a maximum of two years by the farmer by which time their egg production will have slowed down to a point that the farmer deems them not worth keeping any longer. Don't be mistaken, these hens will still lay but not to the intensity that is expected of them to be seen as worthwhile in a battery farm. By this time a lot of money will have been made by the farmer and since they have made their money we feel these hens should be given the life they deserve at no cost to the rescuers. This is why we simply refuse to pay for them (It has been known in the past that farmers have had to actually pay out themselves for their 'spent' battery hens to be taken off their hands. If anyone can provide any information on where we could get hold of a load of ex-battery hens the please contact the rescue on 0151 931 1604. For more information on battery hens and factory farming visit http://www.viva.org.uk/pdfs/egg_factsheet.pdf Cockerels In Need of HomesHere on the Freshfields' farm we are always over-run by more cockerels than we can handle. They are stunning birds and a pleasure to have around yet too many in one space can lead to problems. Anyone who has at least a couple of hens can have a cockerel (considering your neighbours are understanding) and they will make great companions for your hens. The requirements for keeping cockerels are the same as for the hens, they will need a good sized area to roam around in through the day time and a coup for night and in bad weather. Our cockerels are rehomed on the condition that they never enter the food chain and are not to be used to breed from. If you are considering taking on a cockerel of your own please bear in mind that they can make a lot of noise early in the morning so please speak to your neighbours about this first. For more information on adopting one of our cockerels please contact the rescue on 0151 931 1604. Calling for Llandudno VolunteersThe Llandudno shop is desperately in need of volunteers! Please fill in the volunteer application form on our web site or call 0151 931 1604 for further details.. Volunteers Needed for Formby ShopAre you good with cutomers? Can you spare us a half day per week? We particularly need people for Thursdays. Please contact the shop direct on 01704 875599 WoolDo you have odd balls or half balls of wool that you no longer need? Please don't throw them away...we have a band of patient, generous people who enjoy nothing better than knitting or crocheting blankets for the animals. Help them to help us by passing your balls of wool into the nearest Freshfields charity shop and you will be making your contribution toward keeping the animals warm. Thank You Kitten Food! The liverpool centre is very lucky in that we have lots of dog food and a fair amount of cat food donated to us on a regular basis. So much so that we sometimes pass on excess dog food to the Welsh centre and indeed other charities that are less fortunate in this area than us. What we don't have donated to us, but we really, really wish we did is KITTEN FOOD. At present we have to buy our kitten food from the wholesalers. Given that we deal with hundreds of kittens every year that's an awful lot of money for the rescue to find. If next time you visit the supermarket you could possibly purchase a box of Kitten food pouches/tins instead of your normal tin of dog food we would be very, very grateful. We don't mean to be cheeky, it's just that it would really help a lot. Thanks so much for your support...we couldn't manage without you! Handy Persons WantedFreshfields Liverpool would like to make a special appeal for experienced Handy People to join our band of regular volunteers. There are endless jobs at the rescue that need competant persons to carry them out. If you feel you have skills that would benefit the centre then please contact us via the volunteer page on this website or email volunteer@freshfieldsrescue.org.uk. |
