Woodchip Desperately Needed

Every year here at Freshfields in Liverpool we put down approximately 14 tonnes of woodchip on our farm to give the animals something suitable to stand on. With all the bad weather we have been having recently the farm is looking awful and the ground is literally turning to sludge!  We have been lucky over the last few years to have a kind supporter donate us this huge amount of woodchip all in one go but this year we have so far been unable to contact them.

We are appealing for anyone who is able to get hold of any woodchippings, no matter how large or small the amount may be. Hopefully we can this way we can get hold of enough of the stuff to spread around, even if not as much as we have normally, to give the animals a more pleasant living environment.

If anyone is able to help us out or knows anyone who can then please contact the rescue, it will be greatly appreciated!

Peacocks Still Needing Good Homes

We are happy to have re-homed about 40 of the 80(ish) peacocks/hens that were removed from a small holding a couple of months ago. However we still have the rest to rehome. We currently have 9 males and 4 females at our site in Liverpool with about 20 more still penned up at the place they came from. A this point it is looking like there are more males than females left there. If you have a nice piece of land and are interested in rehoming a peacock or two or know anyone who may, then please contact the rescue centre asap. They are such beautiful, laid-back birds, please help if you can.

Cattery Volunteers Required

The Liverpool cattery is currently recruiting volunteers to work Saturday and/or Sunday half days.

The right candidate would need to be prepared to commit to one regular shift each week and should be willing to muck in and work as part of a team. The charity depends upon the commitment and regular attendance of volunteers as without these it cannot function.

If you are a cat lover, don't mind getting your hands dirty, like hard work and being part of a team then please fill in and submit the volunteer form on the 'How you can help' page or contact the rescue for further details.

Applicants should be 17 or over and your own transport is essential as the centre is a little off the beaten track.

Liverpool Heating Appeal - £6000 needed!

The Liverpool shelter has launched an appeal to raise an additional £6000 to replace the old oil fueled boiler that heats the old farm house on the Liverpool site.

The farm house, originally home to Freshfields founder Lesley Tarleton, has for a number of years been used as an isolation and recuperation area for cats, on the 1st floor, and as an extension to the kennels on the ground floor. The boiler that once supplied heat to this area has been out of action now for over 18 months. Last year the lack of funds to replace it meant using oil filled electric radiators to keep the animals warm...this came at an astronomical cost and is something we cannot afford to repeat this year. Some new radiators are also required along with a lot of pipe work so that we can also supply heat to our feral cat kitchen, staff room and kennels kitchen (all of which currently are home to animals of one sort or another).

Our dilemma... we still need to keep the animals warm and we need to raise this money without it having a negative effect on our usual Christmas Appeal !

Freshfields would be grateful for any donations toward this appeal however large or small. The cold weather is really setting in now and we need to prepare for the winter months. If you wish to help then please send your donations (clearly marked - Heating Appeal) to:

Freshfields Animal Rescue, East lodge Farm, East Lane, Ince Blundell, Liverpool L29 3EA

Newspapers

The Liverpool rescue is currently suffering from a lack of NEWSPAPERS which we use on a daily basis to line cages etc to help keep the animals environments clean.

If you have any spare newspapers and are willing to help then please drop them in locally at any of our shops or better still directly at the Ince Blundell rescue.

Thank You - your help is appreciated.

Blankets

The Liverpool rescue desperately needs warm blankets for it's many canine residents!

The winter is setting in fast and we are greatly in need! If you can help please drop off any blankets either at the centre itself or at any one of our charity shops.

Thank you!

GUS

Hi, my name is Gus and I am a 10 year old (very handsome!) German Shepherd.

I came to Freshfields about 5 years ago after years of terrible neglect. My owner had let me get into a terrible state, with open sore wounds all over me. I was in a lot of pain and discomfort but she just ignored me....

Then one day the nice people at Freshfields Animal Rescue saved me! They bathed my wounds and made me better. I still have some scars, but the other dogs say they look cool... well you gotta have some stories to tell!

I soon went to a home, but after 3 years they sent me back to kennel life. It was kinda my own fault if I'm honest! But I was just following my protective instincts and being loyal to mum and dad! They used to lock me away whenever anyone came to the house, then one day they didn't shut the door properly (so they are to blame too!) I mean... how was I to know she was a mobile hairdresser, I just saw a lady waving sissors around at my mum! So yes, I did have a little nibble on her arm. I was very sorry after, but that wasn't enough... So here I am back in kennel life!

I've been back 2 years now and no one seems to want me! I admit, I am getting on a bit, but I would dearly love to spend my remaining time in a loving home. Maybe even have a bed by the fire?! You see, I have terrible arthritis now, and with winter setting in it does tend to hurt more. The staff here do their best for me, to keep me as comfortable as possible, but nothing beats a home does it?

I need an adult only home with no other pets. A sensible owner is a must! I may only have a matter of months left, so please please don't let me spend them in a kennel.

Somebody, somewhere, must have enough love in their hearts, to give me a good home for my final months!

I didn't get the best start in life so I am begging for some love and happiness for the end!

I will promise to love you lots and lots!

Love and licks

Urgent Appeal for Funds to re-furb Horse Trailer

Our Wlesh shelter have kindly been donated a second hand Ifor Williams Horse trailer by a generous couple in Yorkshire who gave a home to two of our border collies.

It is in almost perfect condition but we need to make it a little safer before we can use it.  If anyone would like to donate towards the interior refurbishment we would be very grateful.  It will cost around £400 to clad the walls and floor/ramp with rubber matting for the protection of the horses travelling within.

The dontion of this trailer will save us a great deal of money, in the next few weeks we need to bring back all the horses which have spent the summer grazing away from the shelter.so this an urgent appeal!
