AppealsRabbit, Cat and Dog Food Urgently Required.Quality dried rabbit food needed, stocks are running very low on site and we are appealing for any donations, you can either drop it at the rescue centre in Ince Blundell or at any of our shops. We are also continuning to struggle for donations of Quality Cat Food such as Whiskas and Felix and quality dog foods such as Pedigree Chum, Butchers, Pal and Winalot. A couple of cans of quality food is of much greater value to the rescue than multiple cans of budget food. This is simply because the stressful environment of a rescue centre can mean upset stomachs caused by often too rich cheaper foods. We truly value your support in helping us feed the animals. Thank You Calling all Jugglers - your assistance is needed! Are there any expert jugglers out there among our Freshfields supporters? If so ... would you be willing to donate your time between 12 and 4pm this Halloween (October 31st) to hold a juggling workshop at our Cat Extravaganza? If you are up for the challenge of training paying participants (young and old) in the age old art of the juggler then please contact us on 0151 931 1604 and ask to leave leave your details for Dave. All profits from the day will go to supporting the animals Thank You Scruffy’s Walk
http://www.justgiving.com/ScruffysWalk Scruffy is a Freshfields disabled dog and he, along with close pal Breda, is taking part in this years 'Southport Rotary Club Walk for Charity' on September the 5th, with the aim of raising much needed funds for Freshfields Animal Rescue. Scruffy lives at the rescue. He originally came there 3 years ago from an abusive owner who use to beat him. Scruffy then went to a new home but was returned for biting. Scruffy's biting doesn't appear to be typical aggression. He has a neurological problem that causes him to be wobbly and unsteady on his legs. Freshfields vets can't find anything wrong with him so it is possible that this has been caused by his violent previous owner. Freshfields believe that Scruffy bites as he is disorientated and doesn't understand attention when he is not expecting it. When he has seen you and knows you he runs over, wagging his tail, and loves having a little fuss. He is a very sweet little dog that desperately deserves the chance of a kind, loving home. Because of his neurological problems Scruffy will need an understanding home that will give him space when he needs it and let him adjust to his new surroundings slowly. He will probably bite at some point but this is because of his disorientation, not because he is a nasty dog. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it's the most efficient way to donate - raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and donate now. http://www.justgiving.com/ScruffysWalk Cat Food NeededGood quality tinned cat food desperately needed at our Liverpool and Welsh shelter. Whiskas, Felix, Kitty Kat etc. Please, if you are passing either of our shelters or one of our shops please drop what ever you can off. Thank you. Gardeners Wanted !Freshfields Liverpool are on the look out for volunteers willing to lend a hand at the Ince Blundell site maintaining their wildlife garden and helping out with general weeding, planting etc around the site. The Liverpool rescue is lucky enough to have two dedicated volunteers (Breda & Fran) who give up a portion of their time every week in this pursuit, however since the recent landscaping of the 'old pet cemetary' by a team of volunteers from Barclaycard they really need a little extra help to keep on top of things. Breda is fairly flexible, so if any willing party would like to contact the rescue and let her know when they are available to come down and help she will try her best to accomodate them. Don't worry if you can't make it down every week, a regular commitment fornightly or even monthly will still be of help. Please contact the rescue on 0151 931 1604 if you are interested or email Thank You photo shows Breda (far right, front) and Fran (3rd from right, front) during the Barclaycard make over. Newspapers Needed! The Liverpool rescue is currently suffering from a lack of NEWSPAPERS which we use on a daily basis to line cages etc to help keep the animals environments clean. If you have any spare newspapers and are willing to help then please drop them in locally at any of our shops or better still directly at the Ince Blundell rescue. Thank You - your help is appreciated.
Ghost Walk Volunteer wanted!Due to increasing bookings we need more volunteers to help marshal our Haunted Liverpool Ghost Walks. The walks take place from Peter Kavanagh's Pub near Liverpool City Centre and last around one and half hours on Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings. There may be additional nights due to corporate bookings. What does it entail? We can have up to thirty people in a group. The group is led by a professional guide and needs one or two marshals. What does a marshal do? A marshal makes sure the group stays together and doesn't wander off.. or get run over when we cross roads. Part of the tour takes place in the cemetery in the dark and our marshals keep an eye on the Ghost hunters and provide assistance when needed. Anyone ‘theatrical' can work with the Guide and be part of the ‘entertainment', but that is not essential. A marshal can also help with a short Ghost Hunt with EMF meters at the end of each tour. A costume will be provided and full training given. Own transport is preferable for safety reasons (getting home) but we do finish early enough for people to use public transport. The marshals are vital to the success off the Ghost Walk. If they are not present, the tour can't take place. This is a unique opportunity to have some fun, dress up and make a major contribution to Freshfields Fundraising. That said, it is a ‘job' as opposed to an evening out and it does carry a certain amount of responsibility. The Tours run all year round so we'd ask that only people who can make a regular commitment, apply. All profits from the Walks go directly to Freshfields. If you would like to know more, please phone or email Jan Robinson on 07983 160479 or email You can visit our website at http://www.ghostwalks.org
Quality Dog Food Needed for Sensitive Stomach’sWe desperately need donations of good quality canned dog foods such as Pedigree Chum, Butchers, Chappie, Pal or Winalot. Many of the dogs at the rescue cannot tolerate the cheaper foods which often cause diarrhoea and the charity is at the point now where it may be necessary to purchase these foods which will mean a heavy drain on resources. Thank You for your help! Recycling AppealYOUR TRASH IS WORTH CASH Office materials that normally end up in the bin - toner and inkjet printer cartridges, and old mobile phones - can be recycled to raise valuable funds for Freshfields. If you're guilty of throwing away used printer cartridges and other recyclable office materials, read on! Freshfields has teamed up with leading recyclers at the Recycling Appeal in an environmentally friendly fundraising scheme. Every time you donate a cartridge or old mobile phone to Freshfields Recycling Appeal, we will earn cash. "Freshfields Recycling Appeal is an easy way to help the environment while supporting a great cause. Our organisation is currently working to raise funds for animals at the centre and with your support, we are confident our Recycling Appeal will be a great success." Not only will your participation in the Freshfields Recycling Appeal raise the organisation much needed funds, recycling allows you to make a positive impact on the environment. Rob Morton of the Recycling Appeal says: "Throwing away old mobile phones and used printer cartridges sends them to landfill sites where they become part of our nation's growing waste problem. The vast majority of mobile phones contain toxic substances, which can leak into the surrounding soil and pollute it, and printer cartridges take hundreds of years to biodegrade. Why not use these products for something good? Send them to the Freshfields Recycling Appeal and they will be refurbished and re-used. Some of the mobile phones even end up in developing countries where little or no landline infrastructure exists meaning your old mobile could provide a lifeline for someone." So put your old mobile phones, inkjet and toner printer cartridges to one side. Hand them into one of our shops or at the centre. Woodchip Desperately NeededEvery year here at Freshfields in Liverpool we put down approximately 14 tonnes of woodchip on our farm to give the animals something suitable to stand on. With all the bad weather we have been having recently the farm is looking awful and the ground is literally turning to sludge! We have been lucky over the last few years to have a kind supporter donate us this huge amount of woodchip all in one go but this year we have so far been unable to contact them. We are appealing for anyone who is able to get hold of any woodchippings, no matter how large or small the amount may be. Hopefully we can this way we can get hold of enough of the stuff to spread around, even if not as much as we have normally, to give the animals a more pleasant living environment. If anyone is able to help us out or knows anyone who can then please contact the rescue, it will be greatly appreciated! |
