Abolish Testing on Animals

The majority of animals used in experiments are rodents such as guinea pigs, rats and mice. Also used are a wide range of other animals including dogs, cats, horses, sheep, pigs, fish, birds and non-human primates. In the European Union over 12 million animals are used in experiments annually, 115 million worlwide.

Great suffering is inflicted on these animals in an attempt to investigate how the human body works and how it reacts to infection and disease. Animals are also used to predict how the human body will respond to drugs and surgical techniques, to the effects of weapons and the toxicity of substances.

Policy makers and researchers are being placed under great pressure by public opposition to find alternatives to these barbaric practices with the ultimate goal being the complete replacement, with alternative humane non-animal methods, of all animals in research and testing.

There are a number of dedicated organisations that work without respite, dedicated to ending this unnecessary suffering.  Below are just a selection of those worthy of investigating further.
