Rhea

Rhea came to us as a stray that was never claimed.   She was in terrible condition when she arrived here.  Her ears were badly infected and had been so for some considerable time, she also had an untreated skin infection and she was painfully thin.  Rhea was very bewildered when she came to us, but within a week she was bouncing around like a puppy again!  She is such a happy girl, so full of life, now that she knows she is safe!  She never fails to make the kennel staff smile with her giddy mannerisms.  Rhea is an absolutely gorgeous girl, she thoroughly deserves a good home after all she has been through.

She has now been with us for a few months and we would like to do a special appeal for her.  Some days Rhea seems down, we spend as much time as we can with her, but nothing compares to a loving home.  So we are asking you to help her!  Please spread the word about Rhea and help her find a forever home, she is one of the sweetest characters we have ever met and after everything she has been through in her life she deserves a new start in life.

Medical update:  As Rhea came to us with both ears infected and had been left untreated for years, she has ongoing medication and special food to help keep them clean and pain free.  As with many German Shepherds she is low on her back end which may be the beginnings of the common GSD condition CDRM.  Please, please don't let this put you off this beautiful girl, she desperately needs your help!  As she has long term medical problems, the rescue may be able to help with this.   Please speak to kennel staff for more details about Rhea.

Maddy

Maddy was brought to our front door and left with us as the child in the family was allergic to her. Maddy now lives in our office as kennel life proved too stressful for her. The office is nice and quiet with less hustle and bustle to disturb Maddy. She is very affectionate and loves to curl up next to you given half a chance. Maddy is very clean and always waits till she is walked to go to the toilet.

Maddy can get quite stressed, she doesn't like other dogs and she hates cats! On a walk she can occasionally take her frustrations out by biting sticks and trees, however this is not very often. Maddy is a lovely dog but she doesn't like seeing the vet (what dog does!) Staff can advise how to deal with this situation.

Overall Maddy is a great dog, typically staffy type, she loves people. Maddy needs an adult only home with no other pets. She would like a kind, calm owner who will let her snuggle up on the couch! She really will make a great friend if given the chance!

My name is Maddy and I am now 6 years old. Sadly I was brought to Freshfields Animal Rescue over 2 years ago because my family were allergic to me, and yes 2 years on I am still here because nobody seems to want me. I don't really like kennel life. I find all the commotion, the comings and goings particularly stressful. Its far too noisy for me. I just want a quiet and simple life! I am very affectionate, I would let you tickle my tummy all day long. I am very, very, very clean, I always wait till I go on a walk to go to the toilet. I am good on the lead too, oh except if I see another dog! Did i mention that I don't like other dogs, or cats?! So I need to be the only pet in the house, and need to be walked at quiet times or in quiet places.

I would really love it if somebody picked me to be their new daughter. I have been overlooked for so long, its making me very sad! I just need a calm house, with no children (as they are not calm). I think someone with experience of my breed, or rescue dogs would be best. Also I would like to meet my new mum and dad a few times before I am adopted, just to make sure they really like me!

Please, please ask the kennel staff about me. I don't want to be here for another year. I just want a mum and dad I can call my own. I promise to love you lots and lots.

Love and licks

Paige: looking for a person with special skills

Paige is a striking blue and white, 7 year old neutered female, and an extremely affectionate and loving feline. She was originally brought to Freshfields after a traffic accident left her with internal injuries and unable to defecate or urinate by herself. Her owners wanted to have her P.T.S. and we were asked to take her by the vet.

Paige's faeces and urine need to be expressed manually on a daily basis. This is really easy once you know how, but we do feel Paige would be best placed with someone from a nursing or medical (animal or human) background. Paige was rehomed successfully about four years ago, to a nurse, but due to a change in family circumstances she was returned last July. She is on a sensitivity diet.

Her favourite spot is on top of the radiator and you will often find her stretched out, oblivious to the world. When she is awake she greets everyone in the cattery office enthusiastically. She is well adapted to her life of being expressed, and is fairly accepting of what is required of her. An ideal home for her would be one with an outdoor heated pen as some leakage of faeces does occur, although this could right itself when she has the freedom to exercise.

We are still hoping to find the right home for this beautiful, sociable, adorable cat. The Rescue will meet all medical costs relating to Paige's condition.

Hattie

Hattie is a 5 year old black and white neutered female, who was rehomed from us as a kitten and returned  in summer 2010 due a change in family circumstances.

After a history of bowel problems, Hattie had her large colon removed last summer. This surgery was a great success and, coupled with her diet, she no longer spots poo.  She is on a strictly controlled dry food diet, a mixture of Hills senior and T/D.

Hattie is a very strong minded, individual, feline. She is very affectionate and tactile to everyone she encounters here in the cattery. She makes herself heard and is persistent in her attempts to get herself chosen.

She would best be suited to a one-cat household; if any opportunity arises for her to eat someone else's food she takes it with open jaws!! If this happens she has diarrhoea, hence her strict dry food diet.

Hattie has a strong presence and will be a great friend and companion to the right family and environment. She is playful and loves to chase around with toys. She would benefit greatly from a garden, she has been cooped up in the shelter far too long.

Neutered Male Guinea Pigs

We currently have 6 neutered male guinea pigs. They came to us from a home where the owner had let them breed and lost control. There were supposed to be around 25 but when we arrived there were only 16 as the others had already been moved on. Most of these were male and they were in horrific conditions, tiny dirty cages with no food. We have now neutered all of the males and they are now ready for rehoming. They are all very hansome with lovely personalities although some are abit timid. We have had to separate all of the males from each other as they were fighting. It is very common for males to fight with other males as they get older but they will get along fine with the females. We are looking for a home for these guinea pigs with a hutch with a run attached (4ft by 4ft) with female companions. They are all colours and ages and so you will definately find the perfect partner for your female!
