RooRoo was brought into the rescue by a supporter who had found him lying at the side of the road unable to walk. Roo was just a lamb at the time and it was touch and go as to whether he would survive. He had a severe infection in his joints which enters through the umbilical cord and which had caused all his joints to swell. The swelling was so severe that he could not stand by himself and he was also malnourished. Luckily for Roo our farm manager Steve and his partner Collette took him into their home and spent many weeks nursing him back to health. Not only did he require ongoing medication in the form of antibiotics but he was also given hydrotherapy to help his mobility. Despite the improvement that resulted from this TLC we were told that it was likely Roo would suffer from severe arthritis in the future, might always walk with a limp and that it was doubtful his joints would ever return to normal. Whilst we cannot say what the future will hold for Roo, today to look at him you would never know there had bneen a problem. He walks like any other sheep and his joints looks as though there had never been a problem. He loves his food as can been seen from the photo where he is busy tucking into a pile of donated veg. |
