Matilda

Redundant from a pig meat farm where a veterinary student who supports the rescue was on a placement. Matilda had spent pretty much her whole life in a farrowing crate giving birth to one litter of piglets after another, all to be slaughtered for meat production. Pregnant when she arrived with us she soon gave birth to a litter of 5 healthy piglets (in factory farming she would have been expected to produce more than this in order for keeping her alive to be viable). This was the first litter that matilda was allowed to be a mum to. The piglets were all successfully rehomed and now Matilda and her larger than life character rule the roost at the rescue. All our animals are looking for the right home. With farm animals we always make it absolutely clear that they must never enter the food chain. Farm animals like domestic pets and indeed humans share the same rights to consideration. These rights will always remain a crucial part of the tenets of this charity!
