YouthWays you can help animals! There are many, many ways that today's young people can help animals. Hopefully with time we will manage to fill this page with suggestions that cover those very areas. For now however we will mention the most basic and what should also be the most obvious...but all too often isn't. Make sure you do right by your own pets! If you have pets of your own, or animals in the family that aren't directly yours but that you interact with on a regular basis, then research them! Read books, the internet, look at what their needs are and make sure as a responsible family you are caring for their needs. If they are sociable creatures that would normally live in family groups, do they have a companion? Do they have constant access to sufficient space to exercise? Do they have adequate shelter, food and warmth? Whatever type of companion animal you have, dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, horse, mouse, sheep, chicken ... they each have their individual needs and the right to due consideration. You also have a legal obligation to ensure the animal's needs are met and that they are able to exhibit natural behaviour within a suitable environment. This may all seem very obvious but it is amazing how many animals there are neglected purely because of ignorance. Being alert, aware and striving to educate yourself is certainly an excellent start. |
