Training and Care12 Ways You Can Help WildlifePlease download and read the attached PDF document which explains 12 very important ways that you can help British Wildlife. Thank You Popular Small PetsRabbits and Guinea Pigs have always been high on the list of popular small pets and latterly ferrets have joined this group. It's not just kids stuff either, all three species make great companions for adults and indeed are often better suited as companions for grown ups as they do not come without responsibility. If you are planning a small pet for your child (or yourself) please remember many of them need the companionship of their own species and all of them need the right care and attention with plenty of safe space to move around in. Always research your chosen animal before deciding not only if it's right for you, but if you have what it takes to give it the right kind of life... for the entirety of it's life! Please take a look at the basic care sheets below. Really Small PetsHamsters and Gerbils are really popular pets for smaller children. It should always be remembered that just because they are small they don't suffer any less than say, a dog or a cat, if they aren't looked after properly. Supervision is important at all times and parents, it's your responsibility to teach by example and make your small child an exemplary parent to their small pets. Some of the smaller hamsters such as the Roborovski's just aren't suitable for children at all, they are too tiny and too quick. Kids need to learn responsibility from an early age so it's up to you to show them what a joy a pet can be and how good it feels to look after them properly. Please scroll down for basic facts and information on animal care. More Small PetsRats and Mice, both from the rodent family and both very popular small pets. Prolific breeders, it's really important that they are kept in same sex groups to avoid breeding. Please scroll down for facts and information on the the basic care of these creatures. Less Common Small AnimalsChipmunks, Degus and Chinchilla are all becoming more popular as pets. Freshfields always recommends that you adopt a pet from a rescue rather than encourage the breeders by purchasing direct. Whatever your choice of pet it is vital that you research how to care for it properly. Basic information can be found below for Chipmunks, Degus and Chinchilla...please scroll down the page and open the PDF document of your choice. The more you learn, the better a pet owner you will be. |
