Future Plans
Struggling for Survival
It's difficult to get excited about the future when each day is a struggle for survival!
The credit crunch, a drop in legacy income, fire in one of our kennel blocks!
However....whilst it would be all too easy to give in and call it a day, that is not the spirit that has seen 30 years of this rescue through some of it's hardest times. It's true that things are different today, more difficult in one sense and easier perhaps in another. For one we are more organised. Our body of volunteers are both dedicated and reliable and there are more out there just waiting to hear about us so that they too can join the ranks.
Freshfields function is far too important for us to simply lay down and give in!
Perhaps our greatest aim is education...not the most obvious one perhaps but this is what we hope for in everything we do. With each animal rehomed we send out a message that hopefully will spread. Man is judged by his interaction with the creatures that share this planet with him. Humankind must all...learn from the mistakes of the past and move forward, responsible and accountable for all that we do!
What does the future holds for us?
Hopefully...a sounder financial footing! Yet beyond that the opportunity to expand our work in the community both with the feral cat population and with the neutering of all domestic pets be they dogs, cats, rabbits or other of neuterable size, without complication.
In Liverpool:
New Kennel Blocks - we need to redesign and rebuild in order to continue with the valuable work we have been doing for so many years.
Refurbishment of the house - this is used as an isolation unit for all new cattery admittances and is in vital need of repair.
Community Involvement - the opportunity and ability to draw from the community groups of people who will share in our enthusiasm for the work that we do and who in turn will benefit and grow from their association with Freshfields...from their ability to give back!
In Wales:
Volunteer Base - to expand on a strong begining and establish dedicated support groups throughout the region.
Cattery - a completely new cattery building, the current one being unlikely to survive much longer. Plans have been drawn up for new buildings and these are something we must strive for.
Stable yard - the area around the stables/agricultural building needs concreting as this becomes quite hazzardous during the winter months.
New Tractor - A new (or decent second hand) tractor will be a must in the very near future. Trevor the current rusty old Freshfields tractor is unlikely to make it through the winter and the rescue cannot manage without one.
Plans develop and change with days that pass and it may well be that tomorrow or the next day new opportunities will arise that freshfields needs and wants to be a part of. We are an ever growing and evolving entity and no possibility is beyond our scope to consider.
Our greatest hope is that in all our future work the community in which we operate will take the time to stand back, consider and support us!
