Frequently Asked Questions

How can I help raise money for the rescue?

Take a look at the 'How you can help us' pages on the website, there are lots of ideas for you there. Alternatively telephone our fundraiser Jane on 07799 582917

Thanks for taking an interest in the charity...we could really use your help!

I want a puppy for my two year old. How can I get one from the rescue?

Our policies state that we don't re-home dogs to anyone with children under five. There is lots and lots of change happening in families with young children, it's often stressful just looking after the kids without adding to this with a dog or puppy. Your home needs to be stable and calm to welcome a dog or a puppy into it (especially a rescue dog that has already been through a tough time), both of which will demand a fair amount of your time. We would recommend you consider a cat or other small animal and wait until the kids are older before chosing a rescue dog.

I’d like to leave something to the rescue in my will. How do I go about this?

Leaving a gift in your will helps ensure the future of the charity. All you need do is contact Jane Young  our fundraiser on 07799 582917 and she will send out a pack to guide you. Alternatively email her at . We are very grateful to you for thinking of us this way.

I want to adopt a rabbit, what do I need to do?

Firstly you need to telephone or come down to the rescue and have a chat with the Wildlife and Small Animal staff. We never re-home rabbits singly as they are sociable creatures and should always have a companion. So unless you already have one that needs a companion you would need to give a home to two. Our staff will happily advise you on all of the rabbits needs and once you are sure these are the right animals for you will guide you in your choice of pet. All rabbits leave the rescue fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.

Why do I have to pay to adopt an animal?

We ask for a fixed monetary donation from prospective adoptees for a number of reasons. Making a donation helps cover the costs incurred by the rescue whilst the animal you are adopting was in our care, the rescue continues to exist purely as a result of the generosity of our supporters via their donations and it shows us that you are commited to the animal and understand there may be times when expense may be involved with it's continuing care. Our charges are not set in stone, we always try to put the animals first and good homes are always the most important thing.

What are your opening hours?

Opening hours vary depending on which rescue you want to visit. Full details can be found in the 'contact us' section.

I’d like to make a donation, how do I go about this?

There are many ways to donate money to the rescue. By clicking on the 'donate now' button on the website, by telephoning the Liverpool rescue on 0151 931 1604 and making a card payment or by posting your donation to either the Welsh or Liverpool rescue. Addresses can be found on the 'contact us' page.

I live on a busy road, can I still adopt a cat?

We wouldn't generally recommend you keeping a cat in an area where it is likely to be run over. That doesn't preclude you from having a pet to look after though, many of our cats are house cats, who are perfectly happy within the confines of a house or flat. Call down to the centre any day between 12 and 4pm and ask to speak to a member of staff in the cattery who can advise you further.
