Ethos and Policies
Freshfields Animal Rescue
The policy, aims and objectives of Freshfields Animal Rescue have been adhered to since first they were set. It's board of Trustees and Founder Lesley Tarleton are responsible for the upholding and continuity of these essential tenets of the charity.
They are the foundations of this charity and remain the heart and soul of what we are.
Policy
- No healthy animal to be destroyed.
- All admissions exhibiting severe behavioural problems will be treated fairly, appropriately, without prejudice and without recourse to euthanasia.
- Long term residents that cannot be re-homed to be provided with appropriate, communal, calm and stimulating accommodation that allows interaction with our volunteers and is befitting a sanctuary like ours.
- Priority given to strays, mistreated animals and those whose owners have died.
- All adult animals neutered / spayed before re-homing.
- All medical problem admissions are pro actively resolved wherever possible through veterinary intervention and care.
- Advice and practical and financial help will be given with feral cat colonies.
- Great care taken to ensure the suitability of each home before an animal is adopted.
- All animals are worthy and capable of being re-homed. No animal will be dismissed as being beyond the care of an adopter.
- The charity has a resource led pro active approach to animal adoptions.
- A community led approach to offer assistance to all families in need of our help in times of personal crisis.
Aims
- To provide sanctuary and relief to all animals who need it.
- To improve the welfare status of all companion animals.

- To highlight the welfare needs of all farmed animals by advocating a meat free diet.
Objectives
- To expand the humanitarian work the charity has carried out for over 30 years.
- To improve the facilities the charity can offer all its resident animal population.
- To expand its learning potential for all schools and colleges across Merseyside.

- To expand the valuable role the charity now has in the community of Merseyside and North Wales.
- To develop the charity’s strong volunteer base, to actively seek their recruitment and training and to fulfil their individual needs.
Unlike electrical goods or a car, an animal cannot come with a guarantee or a years warranty. When people adopt an animal they take on a living creature, which may become sick or troubled and may soil or chew the furniture and will almost certainly take time to settle into its new environment. There is no promise of perfection. When taking on a ‘rescue’ you must be prepared… to do a bit of rescuing. People should never take on a rescue animal as a means of acquiring a cheap pet. All pets cost the same to look after properly. These costs may include veterinary bills or repair of damaged property. If you can’t afford it don’t have it! If you want perfection you shouldn’t chance it!
However, thousands of our animals are happy in their new homes & their new owners pleased that they were able to rescue an otherwise homeless pet!
